National Hunt
Cheltenham Race Course
The normal genteel spa town of Cheltenham, for three days in March,
plays host to one of the World's most spectacular racing events. Known
simply as "The Festival". The blue riband event of the
National Hunt season attracts over 200, 000 people every year.
The festival has developed into the most important fixture in Jump
Racing, since the meeting was first held in 1902.
Handicap racing of the highest quality includes the Cheltenham Gold Cup
(first run in 1924), Champion Hurdle (first run in 1927) and the Queen
Mother Champion Chase (first run in 1957). These three feature events
are supported by a fantastic array of both Steeplechase and Hurdling
events.
While the first winner of the Gold Cup received £685, modern winners
can expect rewards in excess of £300,000. Betting on the Festival runs
into the millions, with fortunes won and lost in the matter of minutes.
Mayfair
Limos offer pink, white or black limousines for transport to Cheltenham
for horse racing meetings.
